Flying High

Today was a fun day. Sheryl and I got up and went to Starbucks and then hung out with Jennifer and Meleah. Sean and Adair were at cross country practice. They didn't get home until after ten and then we wanted to go to the beach. Yesterday we got to go to the pool and walk down by the beach, but today we wanted to actually go to the beach. Adair and Meleah had never been para-sailing. So I decided that it was time that they filled that square.

When Jennifer was about Adair's age, she and Lisa went para-sailing in Mexico. They still remember that as if it was yesterday, so I wanted the girls to have the same memory as their mother. Technology has changed para-sailing a lot since then. Before you had to help steer the chute, now it's just like riding in a swing. I went up with them because I knew that they needed someone who they could trust to be with them. I really enjoyed the ride, mainly because I got to see how much they enjoyed it.

We must have been up over 20 minutes, and it was a beautiful day. We could see all the way to Miami and up the coast towards West Palm Beach. Looking inland, we could see all of Ft. Lauderdale and the inter coastal waterway. Beautiful boats were lining the docks on the canals. There was a big cruise ship in Port Everglades and there were other container ships waiting to come into dock.

But looking down was the best. The water was crystal clear and you could see the bottom floor of the ocean, especially where there were reefs and sandbars. We saw numerous sea turtles swimming on the surface. When we passed over head, they would dive toward the bottom for safety. I guess we were about 200 feet in the air, and the ride was amazing. I know that it will be a memory that we will all cherish for a long time. Yes it was pretty expensive, but definitely worth every penny.

Tonight we drove up to Pompano Beach and ate at Houston's. We were able to set outside along the inter coastal. It was a beautiful night and the food was great. Then we came back and took a walk up Las Olas Blvd. It is one of the main fancy tourist places in Ft Lauderdale and it was just fun watching people and seeing the shops. But now we are packed up and ready to go back to Atlanta. It will be another early morning wake up. I can't believe that this weekend has gone by so fast. I really love the kids and wish that we could spend more time with them. But, we will be back and this weekend was a memory maker. It's fun to fly high over the city; especially with your granddaughters.
